The Clemenceau Icefield is located about 30km west of the Columbia Icefields, just on the west side of the Continental Divide (the Alberta - British Columbia border), or about 150km north and east of Golden, B.C. We accessed it by driving up the old Big Bend road from Golden, following the Columbia River Valley (Kinbasket Lake), then up the Sullivan River road, a Forest Service road that leads east into the Rockies from Kinbasket Lake.
Update August, 2005: apparantly the Sullivan River road has been decommisioned and is now closed.

Georges Clemenceau (1841-1929) was Prime Minister of France from 1907-1910.
The area also has a mountain and glacier named after Sir Ernest Shackleton (1874-1922), famous British explorer at the turn of the 20th century.
